Cheryl Lea Hughes

Cheryl Lea Hughes, 76, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026. She was born May 26, 1949 in Midland, Michigan, the daughter of Lemuel Francis and Viola Mae (Badgero) Jasman.

Chery had resided in Topeka since July 2017. She was employed as a Manager by Walmart and also as a florist. She was of the Catholic faith.

Cheryl married Paul E. Hughes in June 1964 in Buena Vista, California. He preceded her in death on August 10, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her seven siblings.

Survivors include Opaljean D. "Opie" Hughes of Topeka, Paul E. "PJ" Hughes, Jr. of Topeka, Stephanie A. Hughes of Topeka, and Shayla M. Hughes of Topeka, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and her siblings, Marilyn Johnson of Arizona and Sandra Pitchford of Tennessee.

A private Celebration of Cheryl’s Life will be held at later date. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Helping Hands Humane Society 5720 SW 21st St., Topeka, Kansas 66604.

Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with service arrangements.
