Connie “Coni” Kae Fenton, 71, of Topeka, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Monday, April 27, 2026.
She was born September 30, 1954, in Axtell, Kansas, the daughter of Gerald and Betty (King) Meyer.
She graduated from Sabetha High School in 1972 and later attended Manhattan Vocational Technical School, earning her associate degree in 1974. Coni dedicated many years to caring for others.
She operated a daycare out of her home for 19 years before serving as the head secretary at Pauline South Elementary School with USD 437 for 23 years, until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Fellowship Bible Church in Topeka.
Coni married her high school sweetheart, Tom A. Fenton, on August 17, 1974, in Sabetha, Kansas. He survives. She is also survived by her children, Brett (Amanda) Fenton and Trisha (Kelly) Sharp; her grandchildren, Kaeden Fenton, Keegan Sharp, Cohen Sharp, and Paige (Brian) Rethman; her great-grandchild, Avery Rethman; her brothers, Gerald Meyer and Rick Meyer; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Coni was a woman of deep love and quiet strength. She welcomed others with warmth, always wearing a smile and sharing her infectious laugh. Her family-especially her children and grandchildren-were the center of her world. She had a special fondness for giraffes and kept a cherished collection throughout her home. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: decorating for Christmas and Halloween, gathering with loved ones during the holidays, and meeting with her Saturday morning coffee group. She also enjoyed tending to her flower garden, visiting the zoo, traveling to the mountains with her husband, and relaxing at home with a Hallmark movie or a good book. Coni appreciated a good bargain and never passed up the chance to stop at a garage sale. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Coni's wishes were for cremation. A Celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 4, 2026 at Dove Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS 66610. The family will receive friends and loved ones at 10:00 prior to the service. She will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
