Topeka

Connie Marie Gillaspie, a devoted caregiver, spirited storyteller, and cherished matriarch, peacefully departed this world on April 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in Topeka, Kansas. Born on March 9, 1956, in Lawrence, Kansas, Connie imbued her life with the warmth of compassion and a zest for genuine connection, dedicating a remarkable thirty years to the nursing profession—a calling she embraced with unwavering enthusiasm. Should be noted she is the founding member of the Topeka Man-Haters Club and The Plant Mafia.

Connie’s career as a nurse was not merely a job; it was a reflection of her nurturing spirit and her profound desire to enrich the lives of others. For twenty-six years, she served at Stormont Vail, followed by two years at Midland Hospice, always illuminating the lives of those around her with her spunky and feisty personality. Known for her colorful vocabulary and infectious laughter, she had a unique ability to form deep connections with her patients through shared stories and lighthearted chats, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.

An astute graduate of the Vocational Tech of Topeka in 1993, Connie earned her associate's degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse while simultaneously balancing the responsibilities of being a dedicated mother to three beloved children. Her unwavering determination and resilience were evident in every aspect of her life, qualities that she proudly passed down to her family.

In the tapestry of Connie’s life, threads of love and joy were woven through her passions and interests. She found delight in crafting, quilting, and gardening, transforming ordinary moments into extraordinary memories. Family gatherings, particularly grand barbecues, brought her immense joy, where the spirit of camaraderie flourished. She was known for her notorious knack for burnt hot dogs, a quirky touch that became a cherished tradition. Her generous nature extended to baking for others, always striving to uplift those around her, ensuring that everyone felt a sense of belonging.

Connie left behind her beloved Brothers George (Paula) GIllaspie, Gary (Mary) Gillaspie, Galen (Mary) Gillaspie. As a devoted mother, Connie reveled in the achievements of her children: Krysta Standley, Jennifer (Philip) Nelson, and Justin (Jenna) Foster. Her pride extended further, embracing her grandchildren—Alana (Dallas) Hathaway, Brittany Nelson, Trevor (Erika Lohse) Meyer, Marysa (Cody Barkley) Standley, Aubrey (Arthur) Godfrey-Flores, Thaddeaus (Marisol Rodriguez) Nelson, Kaleb Standley, Cleo Foster, Trinity Hiatt, David LaFountaine, Charleigh Foster, Hunter Foster, Henry Foster, Vivian Foster, Everett Foster, and Bennett Foster—and her great-grandchildren, Sereniti Godfrey-Flores, Angeli Godfrey-Flores, Piper Godfrey-Flores, Nova Godfrey-Flores, River Godfrey-Flores, Levi Godfrey-Flores, Emmie Meyer, Violet Meyer, Leighlianna Rodriguez, Ella Nelson, Duane Stover, Hunter Barkley, and Harper Barkley. Each name is a testament to a legacy of love that she cultivated with care, nurturing the future generations with the same devotion that defined her life.

She will be remembered not only for her familial bonds but also for the vibrant connections she fostered throughout her life. Connie loved to share the latest gossip, bringing laughter and camaraderie to those around her, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Connie joins her beloved brother, Paul Thomas Gillaspie, and her parents, George and Cleo Gillaspie, in eternal rest, leaving behind a rich legacy of love, compassion, and cherished memories. Her indomitable spirit and nurturing heart will forever be a guiding light, reminding us to embrace each other with kindness and warmth.
