Listen to Obituary

Darcy Jo Rangier, 74, of Topeka, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving children.

Born in Leavenworth, Kansas, Darcy was the daughter of Robert George Rangier and Betty Jean (Behee) Rangier. A free spirit with an adventurous heart, she made homes throughout her life in Leavenworth, Edwardsville, and Topeka, KS; Kansas City, MO; Libertyville, IL; St. Louis, MO; and Reno, NV.

Darcy lived a life full of creativity, curiosity, and courage. She was a Friend of the Topeka Library, a Rainbow Girl in the affiliated Masonic youth organization, and even served as a page for the Kansas House of Representatives at the age/;. of ten. In her teen years, she shone on stage at Libertyville High School, earning accolades for her leading roles in local plays.

During her life, Darcy’s worked at her family’s Dairy Queen, painted and created art, owned a plant shop and a liquor store, modeled, and worked as a waitress at the Kansas City Playboy Club. Later, she also spent time working with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas.

Darcy will be remembered not only for her striking beauty and vibrant spirit but also for the life lessons she shared with her children—lessons that blended humor, wisdom, and heart:

  • The escape a good book can offer
  • How to catch a fish with a dandelion, and how to catch a fly ball
  • Being well-read makes you a formidable foe in Jeopardy! and Trivial Pursuit
  • $50 and a good garage sale is all that’s needed to beautifully furnish a home
  • Always have an appreciation for art and fashion
  • To survive an apocalypse, all you need are some seeds and a few goats
  • A voicemail that says, “This is a text message,” is technically a text message
  • Led Zeppelin and Debussy are equally as cool
  • The effectiveness of a bold and quick-witted response
  • Go big or go home for holidays and celebrations
  • How to sweet-talk your way out of a ticket
  • A few items in the fridge can be transformed into a gourmet meal
  • When a storm’s coming, take cover

Darcy is survived by her daughter, Cherish Allshouse (Brent); sons, Christopher Heller (Jennifer), Alexander DeHart, and Dalton DeHart; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and her brother, William Rangier (Cindy). She was preceded in death by her son, Adam Erb; her parents, Robert and Betty Rangier; and her brother, Robert B.H. Rangier.

A private graveside service will be held at Mount Muncie Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS, where part of her cremated remains will be laid to rest. As per her wishes, her remaining ashes will take a final journey on a hot air balloon ride—date to be determined. Friends and family will be invited to a celebration of her life afterward.
