David M. "Dave" Chilgren

David M. “Dave” Chilgren, 73, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. He was born September 17, 1951 in Topeka, the son of Arthur and Virginia (Mathew) Chilgren.

Dave graduated from Topeka High School. He was employed by Shawnee County, starting as a Maintenance Mechanic for Parks & Recreation, then a Ground Facility Maintenance Supervisor at Topeka State Hospital. He also worked with the Department of Corrections for several years. After retirement, he worked part-time as a school bus driver.

Dave enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with friends.

Survivors include his siblings, Bonnie Mello of Mesa, Arizona and Kathy S. Broxterman of Ozawkie, Kansas, and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his brother, Steven A. Chilgren and his sister, Judith L. "Judy" Wiese.

A private Celebration of Dave's Life will be held at a later date. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st St., Topeka, Kansas 66604.

Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with service arrangements.
