David William Landis

David William Landis, of Topeka, passed away peacefully in his home on July 28, 2026. Born June 29, 1945, David’s presence was a gift across the 81 years of his life—a gift cherished by all who knew him.

David’s roots were deep in Kansas soil. He graduated from Topeka West High School in 1963, already displaying the intelligence and curiosity that would define his journey. Driven by a restless quest for knowledge, he pursued a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from Kansas State University, graduating in 1970. K-State fostered the passions that would steer his remarkable career and shape his perspective on the world.

In September of 1967, David answered the call to serve, joining the United States Army. He served as a Radio Relay and CARR Operator during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life that revealed both his resilience and compassion. His valor and dedication earned him the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Though the world’s tumult swirled around him, David carried out his duties quietly and steadfastly, emerging with stories he would share over time.

David’s professional journey started in Silver Lake, Kansas, where he co-founded, and was Vice President of New Eagle Communications. His leadership and insight shaped both the company and the colleagues who came to respect him deeply. Later in Colorado Springs, he served as Manager of OEM Parts, and every task he undertook was marked by commitment and an innovative spirit—a born “tinkerer,” always pushing boundaries and finding solutions.

Beyond titles and achievements, David lived for the moments in between: for the laughter that floated through living rooms during Western movies, for shouting at the television as the Chiefs or Royals played, for impromptu road trips and time spent exploring new places, for the easy solace of his favorite hobbies. His children were his proudest accomplishment.

Those closest to David will recall his gift of conversation; he was, indeed, talkative, always ready to delve into spirited discussions. 

He is survived by his sons, Ryan (Jennifer) Landis and Aaron (Amy) Landis; granchildren Eric, Michael, Jessica, Annie, Emmy Landis and Taylor Gregorie; 9 great grandchildren; his brothers, Brent and Allen Landis, as well as many nieces and nephews.

David joins in rest his beloved wife, Norine Landis, whose partnership was a beacon through all their years together. He is reunited with his parents, Samuel and Lois Landis, and his brother, Keith Landis.

Friends and family are invited to gather for a Celebration of Life on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Dove Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS. The service will begin at 1:00 pm, with Military Honors by the United States Army at 1:30 pm—a fitting tribute to a man whose service and integrity never wavered.

David William Landis passes from this world leaving behind a legacy of intellect and laughter—a tapestry woven from all the lives he touched and the hearts he warmed. Though we mourn his absence, we celebrate a life rich with love, service, and the stories that will echo for generations.
