Diane Marie Brown

Diane Marie Brown, 77, passed away on August 18, 2026. She was born on February 22, 1949, in Denver, Colorado, to Marie and Harvey Dahl. Diane grew up in Lawrence, Kansas, where she attended and graduated from Lawrence High School. She went on to dedicate 42 years of her life to the University of Kansas, where she built a long and meaningful career and formed many lasting friendships.

Diane shared 54 beautiful years of marriage with her husband, Larry Brown. Their marriage was one of the cherished examples her daughters looked up to throughout their lives. Together, they taught their family the meaning of love, compassion, commitment, and the importance of always being there for one another.

Diane was a loving mother who shared a special and deeply cherished bond with both of her daughters. She was incredibly close to them, and no matter the distance, their connection remained strong. Her daughter, Melissia, was fortunate to live close to her parents and, alongside her dad, was there to help care for her mom as Diane’s health began to decline. Those years brought challenges, but they also created precious memories and gave Melissia the opportunity to give back some of the love and care her mother had given her throughout her life.

Diane was, in many ways, a medical phenomenon. She kept her doctors on their toes and had a remarkable ability to keep defying the odds. She fought a courageous 20-year battle with congestive heart failure and diabetes, enduring multiple heart procedures and countless medical challenges along the way. There were times when others might have given up, but Diane was not one of them. She was determined to fight, determined to keep going, and determined to make the most of the life she had. Her strength and resilience were an inspiration to everyone who loved her.

Her greatest joy was her family. She was a proud grandmother to Dawson, Makenna, Alayna, Kerigan, Ashley, Austin, Makalya, and Conner, and a beloved great-grandmother to Maggie, Amelia, Adalyn, Hazel, and Cayden. She treasured the time spent with her family and loved creating lasting memories that they will carry with them for generations.

Diane was blessed with three loving brothers. She is survived by her brothers, Michael Dahl and Yngve Dahl. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marie and Harvey Dahl, her brother, Peter Dahl, and her son-in-law, Allen Gentry.

Diane found happiness in the simple things that made life special. She loved crocheting, gardening, camping, and fishing, but most of all, she loved being surrounded by the people she cared about. Whether gathered around a campfire, enjoying time outdoors, working in her garden, or simply spending time with her family, Diane had a way of turning ordinary moments into memories worth holding onto.

Diane leaves behind more than a lifetime of memories. She leaves behind the lessons she lived every day—the importance of loving deeply, showing compassion, giving of yourself, and always being there for the people you love. Her greatest legacy is the family she loved so fiercely and the love she planted in each of them.

Though her passing leaves an emptiness that can never be filled, her love will continue through her husband, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, and all those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her strength, determination, compassion, and love will live on in the family she fought so hard to stay with.

Diane never gave up. She fought every day, loved with her whole heart, and left this world knowing she was deeply loved in return.

Celebration of Life

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. at Shelter House #2 at Clinton Lake Overlook Park, N 1402 Road, Lawrence, KS 66049.

Family and friends are warmly invited to join together for lunch, share stories, cherish memories, and celebrate the beautiful life of Diane. Please come as you are and help us honor a woman who loved her family deeply and fought fiercely to remain a part of their lives.
