Listen to Obituary

Dolores Aleta Wells, 91, of Topeka, Kansas, passed peacefully on October 2, 2026, in Topeka. She was born on July 17, 1935, in Flush, Kansas, to Clarence and Genevieve Ekart.

Dolores lived a life marked by devotion to her family, steady work, and quiet strength. She graduated in 1953 from Lucky High School in Manhattan, Kansas, and went on to build a long working life in the Topeka area. Over the years, she worked at Stormont Vail, Martin Marietta, Washburn Law, various law offices, and the Kansas Children’s Service League. In retirement, she continued to give of herself by volunteering at the St. Francis Hospital Gift Shop, a reflection of her generous spirit and her desire to stay connected to others.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures and the routines that made a house feel like home. Dolores enjoyed crossword puzzles, word searches, reading, phone games, game shows, and true crime shows. She also carried a playful side that remained part of the family’s treasured memories, including all the times she played hairdresser with her youngest brother by holding his head out in the rain to bring out his curls. It is the kind of story that captures her humor and the warmth she shared with those around her.

Among the accomplishments closest to her heart were her three children, in whom she took deep pride. She was a proud survivor of breast cancer after being diagnosed in 2001, she also struggled with kidney disease, eventually leading to a continuation of dialysis treatments for many years. Her courage through those chapters of life stood as a lasting example of resilience and determination.

Dolores is survived by her son, Curt Ginter, and his wife, Mary; her daughters, Kim Weaver and her husband, Mark, and Lisa Brainard and her husband, Dave. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Nicolle Greene and her husband, James; Lindsay Dupigny-Leigh and her husband, Mike; Landan Ashton; Daine Weaver and his wife, Arianna; Nicole Elliott and her husband, Patrick; and Kristen Ward and her husband, Brian; 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Sylvester Ekart, David Ekart, and Donald Ekart. The love she gave to her family will remain with them always, carried forward in shared stories, familiar laughter, and the many everyday moments that now hold her memory.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Ekart; her mother, Genevieve Ekart; her first husband, Marvin Ginter; her grandson, Chris Ginter; her brothers, Delbert Ekart and Raymond Ekart; and her sister, Katie Ekart.

Dolores will be remembered for her perseverance, occasional stubbornness, her sense of fun, and the love she poured into her family across the years. Her life was one of endurance, care, and deep personal strength, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
