Donald O. "Don" Goodwin

Donald O. "Don" Goodwin, 91, of Tecumseh, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025 at a Topeka hospital. He was born February 19, 1934 in Topeka, the son of Dovie J. and Hazel M. (Nettelton) Goodwin.

Don graduated from Highland Park High School and attended the University of Kansas. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for 36 years before retiring in January 1987. Don also graduated from the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Reserve Academy on August 14, 1972, serving about six years. After retiring from Santa Fe, he worked as a Security Officer for Capital Federal Savings and Loan from July 18, 1988 to April 29, 1994.

Don was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Kansas State Rifle Association, and the Harley Owners Group. He also served in the Kansas Army National Guard as a Staff Sargent in the 35th Division, 137th Infantry Regime Headquarters Medical Detachment.

Don married Janice M. Flaming on August 6, 1988 at the Berryton United Methodist Church. She survives. Other survivors include step-children, Debra (Chuck) Forman, Leah (Dwaine) Schwab, Melinda (Walt) Thomas, Stanley (Jennie) Sexton, eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. Private burial will take place in Lynn Creek Cemetery southeast of Topeka.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st St., Topeka, Kansas 66604.
