Donovan J. Thornton

Donovan J. Thornton, 57, of Overbrook, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at a Topeka hospital. He was born March 29, 1969 in California, the son of William "Bill" and Betty (Stoner) Thornton, Sr.

Donovan graduated from Santa Fe Trail High School. He was employed by the Douglas County Public Works Department for 28 years before retiring in January of this year. Donovan served as Fire Chief for the Overbrook Fire Department. He loved to fish, hunt and farm.

Donovan married Ruth Ann Hooker. She survives. Other survivors include his siblings, William (Bobbie) Thornton, Jr. and Spicey (Erich) Henning, his nephews, Tyler (Sierra) Thornton, Kris (Rachael) Ullery and several other nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Donovan's Life will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the Grace Community Church, 310 E 8th St., Overbrook, Kansas 66524. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Youth United c/o Ruth Ann Thornton, P.O. Box 112, Overbrook, Kansas 66524.

Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with service arrangements.
