Doris Jean Hodson, 67, of Topeka, gained her angel wings on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Midland Hospice House.
She was born December 8, 1955, in Beatrice, Nebraska, the daughter of George and Edith (Stevens) Vanover.
Doris married George Hearne and they welcomed three beautiful children, Stephanie, David and Nathan.
Doris was a waitress and worked at many restaurants throughout her life. She last worked at Four Corners in Carbondale, KS. She also enjoyed volunteering her time to help others. She volunteered at the Noel Senior Center cooking for the senior dinners, helped at the Salvation Army in Beatrice, NE and at Hayden High School in the cafeteria. Doris was Blue Bird mother for Camp Fire girls when her daughter was young.
She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Doris loved going to their family gatherings, parties and floating on the river. In her spare time she enjoyed crafting, especially sewing, crocheting and creating rag rugs. Her cooking was phenomenal and she made the best corn casserole, chicken noodles and Runza's. She often went garage selling and enjoyed finding new treasures. Doris loved riding on the back of a motorcycle, going camping and gardening.
Doris leaves behind her children, Stephanie (Quentin) Green, David Hearne and Nathan (Faith) Hearne; twenty grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren; and her sisters, Bonnie (Ronnie) Lee and Janice Longan. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Betty Chandler, Jeanie Meckem, George Vanover, Jr., Donald Vanover, Connie Johnson, Daniel Vanover, Barb Sanders and Billy Vanover; and one great grandchild, Demetrius Brown, II.
A celebration of life for Doris will be held at 11:00 am. on Friday, March 31, 2023, at the Dove Southwest Funeral Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, Kansas 66610. Her family will greet relatives and friends one hour prior to service. In her honor, memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
