Dorothy Anne "Dotty" Hanger, 92, of Topeka, passed away Monday, September 26, 2022.
She was born December 14, 1929, in Bazaar, Kansas, the daughter of Willard and Zula (Bennington) Greene. She was a graduate of Topeka High School and received a bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Washburn University.
Dotty was an Enrolled Agent and worked self-employed for years preparing taxes.
Being very civic minded, she was a member of PEO, Minerva Club, and the Topeka YWCA where she was a Past-President.
Dorothy married Richard Burton "Dick" Hanger on June 12, 1949. He preceded her death on December 17, 2018. Survivors include her son, David Hanger of Santa Fe, NM, and granddaughter, Laurell Reynolds.
Their daughter, Melissa, passed away in early 2000, after a long courageous battle with MS. In 2005, in honor of Melissa, Dick and Dotty along with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, created the Melissa Anne Hanger Apartments here in Topeka providing low income adults with MS and other physical disabilities an affordable and fully accessible option to call home.
Dotty enjoyed boating, water skiing, SCUBA diving, playing bridge, entertaining, traveling, and philanthropy.
Dick and Dotty were among the first people to water ski at Lake Shawnee. They have travelled throughout the world, and have sailed extensively in the Mediterranean and the Bahamas. Like Dick, she made everyone she met feel special.
