Dr. Daniel Delbert "Dan" Tibbets, 68, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022 at home. He was born April 15, 1953 in Topeka, the son of Delbert C. and Betty J. (Doane) Tibbets.
Dan graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in 1971. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and Biology from Emporia State University in 1975 and a Medical Degree from the University of Kansas in 1978. He served as a Staff Physician in various clinics nationwide. He began his Medical Practice in Wamego, Kansas in 1999.
Dan loved to travel with his parents and mine for gold. He was a member and President of the Northeast Kansas Amateur Astronomers' League, Inc. at Farpoint Observatory, where he discovered and named a comet. Dan also was a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism and enjoyed Medieval weaponry.
Dan had no children, but loved his dog, Rusty.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Roxanne Baldwin.
Survivors include his siblings, Carl (Shearlene) Tibbets of Edmond, Oklahoma, Katheryn Stark of Topeka, Emmet (Donna) Tibbets of Berryton, his Aunt Sondra of Topeka and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Lynn Creek Cemetery southeast of Topeka.
