Edith Beatrice (Wright) Fields, 103, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2022. She was born August 2, 1919 in Tyro, Kansas, the daughter of Austin and Faye (Ingmire) Wright.
Edith graduated from Tyro High School in 1935. She worked as a school cook, homemaker, mail carrier and cake decorator during her life.
Edith was very involved with the United Methodist Church in Coffeyville, Kansas and the Berryton United Methodist Church in Berryton later in life. She was an active member of her sorority, loved to go camping with Merle and spend time with her family. The family and many friends are blessed with beautiful pictures that Edith painted over the years.
Edith married Merle Wayne Fields on May 21, 1936 in Joplin, Missouri. They shared over 52 wonderful years together. He preceded her in death along with three sisters, Lorene (Walter) Buster, Dorothy (Cecil) Gordon and Allene (Dwight) Fawcett, and one son-in-law, Earl Ficklin.
Survivors include one daughter, Alta Ficklin of Topeka, three sons, Melvin (Judy) Fields of Coffeyville, Kansas, Elbert (Denise) Fields of Dearing, Kansas and Ray (Norma) Fields of Coffeyville, Kansas, nine grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside inurnment services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Robbins Cemetery in Coffeyville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the organization of the donor's choice.
Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. in Topeka is assisting the family with service arrangements.
