Elaine K. Haase Holmstrom, 80, of Topeka passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. She was born August 19, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Victor H. and Cozie (Bruns) Haase.
Elaine graduated from Grandview High School in 1963 and went on to attend Central Missouri State College until marrying her college sweetheart, Frank B. Holmstrom on March 7, 1965. After her marriage she worked as a secretary for a manufacturing company in Grandview, and continued as a secretary for Edison Brothers when she and her husband relocated to the St. Louis area. Once her son was born, she was happy to spend her time and energy as a wife and mother.
Elaine was a longtime member of National Council of Garden Clubs, serving in many offices including Kansas state president and 8-state district president. She was a Master Gardener and member of the American Hemerocallis Society, for which she was an exhibition judge and instructor, and the Topeka Daylily Club. Elaine was a flower show judge as well as an exhibition judge and enjoyed judging at many county fairs in the summer. She earned numerous awards at the state and national level for her designs.
Elaine was happiest when she had a "project" whether it was ceramics, stained glass, macramé, quilting, flower arrangement or painting in oil, acrylic or watercolor. Her talent was readily evident in all areas. She was devastated when she lost her son in 2001 at the age of 35.
She is survived by her husband Frank B., twin sister, Eileen Garrison, grandson, Taylor Blair Holmstrom, granddaughter, Chelsea (Ben) Shea, step-grandson, Dustin McKean, step-granddaughter, Danielle McKean, and five great grandsons.
