Elizabeth "Ann" Mummey

Elizabeth “Ann” (Carter) Mummey, 87, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

She was born September 27, 1937, in Columbia, South Carolina, the daughter of John and Ruby (Rabon) Carter. She was a graduate of Dentsville High School in Richland County, SC.

Ann met Bob during the time he was serving in the US Army at Fort Jackson.

Ann married Bob Mummey, Sr. on January 12, 1958 in Columbia, SC. They went on to make Kansas their home. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2017. Survivors include her children, Darlene Rumsey, Bob (Kelly) Mummey, Jim (Tina) Mummey; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; her sister, Ruby “Jeannette” Arrington; and her brother, Donald (Ann) Carter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Butch Carter.

Ann loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, cooking, shopping and meeting with friends at Lakeside. Ann had a big heart and she always had an extra plate and room for anyone at the supper table.

Ann and Bob owned and operated the Nickerson Boat Club known later as Lakeside Recreation LLC for over 50 years in Nickerson, Kansas.

Ann will lie in state from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday July 2, 2025 at Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel located at 3700 SW Wanamaker Topeka, KS. The Family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8 p.m.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 3, 2025 at the Lakeside Recreation Pavilion located at 7803 N. Nickerson Road in Nickerson, KS. Burial will follow at Wildmead Cemetery, Nickerson, KS. Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel in Topeka, Kansas is assisting the family.

Family asks Lakeside members to plant trees on their lots and around Lakeside in her memory.
