Estella "Marie" Reid, 97, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2025 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 14, 1928 in Tecumseh, the daughter of Howard Harley and Mary Ethel (Goff) Howbert.
Marie graduated from Berryton High School and afterward, attended business school in Kansas City. She later worked for Santa Fe Railroad in Topeka.
Marie and Wayne L. Reid were united in marriage on July 9, 1949, in Topeka and were together for 69 years. He preceded her in death on January 19, 2019. She was also preceded in death by her four siblings, Doris DeLong, Dorothy Boley, Larry Howbert and Jerre Howbert.
Marie and Wayne farmed in the Harveyville, Ks. community for nearly 40 years. They retired in 1996, resided in the Harveyville community for another 20 years, then moved to Aldersgate Village in Topeka in 2016.
Family and friends were at the core of everything she did in life. They were her passion and her happy place. She had an unwavering devotion for her beloved husband Wayne, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Upon arrival at Marie and Wayne’s home, her first concern was that you weren’t hungry and if you were, a full 7 course meal was soon ready. She also had a special love for all the pets in her life.
Marie's love and support were instrumental while Wayne served on several community and organizational boards and stood by his side offering continuous encouragement and partnership. She was also, by his side during their entire farming career, juggling various farm chores, gardening, and operating trucks and tractors while at the same time putting three hot meals on the table every day. Eventually, this earned her the reputation of being known as the "Energizer Bunny" within her family. In addition, Marie worked tirelessly helping Wayne with the Harveyville Cemetery sextant and maintenance responsibilities after they moved off of the farm.
Survivors include her twin children, Dixie M. (David) Haslett of Tecumseh, Daniel L. (Shelli) "Dan" Reid of Tecumseh, four grandchildren, Lisa (Kevin) Eaton, Brian Haslett, Joshua (Meggie) Reid and Jesse (Haley) Reid, eight great-grandchildren, twins, Hannah Haslett and Haylee Haslett, Logan Eaton, Alex Eaton, Parker Reid, Miles Reid, Emery Zanger-Reid and Paxton Zanger-Reid.
