Eugene (Jun) Anthony Hammersmith, a beloved Husband, Father, Grandpa and Great Grandpa, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, at the age of 83, surrounded by his family.
Jun was born on December 3, 1941, in Solomon, KS, the son of Eugene (Dutch) Hammersmith and Thecla (Tex) Hammersmith. He served in the Army during the 1960s.
Jun was employed by L.G. Barcus from 1977 until his retirement in 2010. He was also a member of the Operating Engineers local Union.
Jun was a patient and selfless man that touched the life of all that encountered him. Not only an amazing husband, father, and grandpa he was a valued mentor and friend to many. Jun enjoyed watching football, fishing, flying kites, telling jokes, and tinkering on anything with an engine. Most of all Jun loved to spend his time with his family.
Jun is survived by his loving wife, Sondra (Sandi) Hammersmith whom he married on April 21, 1979; his daughter, Christina (Chris) Craig; daughter Michelle Hazel and son-in-law Robert; his son, Charles (Chuck) Hammersmith; daughter Kim Thomas and son-in law Jason; brothers Kenneth and Terence; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dutch and Tex and siblings, Patricia, Steve, Janice and Barbara.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am, July 26, 2025, at Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship, located at 430 Commercial Street, Carbondale, KS.
