Glendora "George" Marie Kirkwood

Glendora “George” Marie Kirkwood passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026, at the age of 97. Born on May 16, 1929, George’s remarkable life stretched across nearly a century, leaving a legacy defined by independence, pride, and an indomitable spirit.

Throughout her life, George was known for being fiesty and for living by her own rules. Those who knew her best admired her unwavering sense of self—she was, above all, an independent woman. Her love of animals, particularly cats, brought her much happiness over the years, and her fondness for their company was well known in her family and community.

She treasured the simple joys of country life and was particularly remembered for her adventures riding her beloved mule. A familiar and welcome presence at the county fair, George delighted in competing in mule jumping, an activity that perfectly suited her adventurous spirit and her love for unique challenges.

She is survived by her son, Dennis May; daughter-in-law, Linda May; grandson, Christopher May; granddaughter, Ashley Knight; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Their lives remain forever enriched by her guidance, example, and the affectionate memories she leaves behind.

She is reunited in rest with her beloved husband, Norval May who passed in 1968, and her husband, Dale Kirkwood whom she married in 1997 and shared many years together; her son, Bruce May; grandsons, Dennis May and EJ Knight; great-granddaughter, Isabella May; brothers, Ray Mellies, Keith Mellies, Ernest Mellies, and Virgil Mellies; and sisters, Mae Fyfe and Mary Lou Buchholz.

George’s life was a celebration of self-reliance, family bonds, and a zest for living boldly. She touched many lives with her warmth and unwavering authenticity, and her memory will remain vibrant in the hearts of all who knew her.

Her family will remember her with a private graveside service at a later date.
