Harold Joe Rood, 82, of Auburn, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2024.
He was born September 9, 1941, in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Elmer Carrey and Louise (Raute) Rood. He was a graduate of Eastern High School in Lansing, MI. He received his education culminating in his PhD in Philosophy from Michigan State University. He served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1966 and then would continue his military career with the United States Naval Reserve until retiring.
Harold was a professor of Philosophy at Washburn University in Topeka for many years until retiring.
He was a member of White Lakes Optimist Club of Topeka.
Harold married Deena Krymis on August 6, 1966. She preceded him in death on July 31, 2020. Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Elizabeth Rood (Tyler), his son, John Robert Rood (Michelle), his grandchildren, Isaac Miller, Quincy Greenrood, and Theodore Greenrood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ruby Jennings, and his brother, Robert Rood.
Harold enjoyed puzzles, camping, and spending time with his neighbors.
Harold's wishes were for cremation. A memorial ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Dove Cremations & Funerals Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS 66610.
Interment of the cremated remains and military honors will be at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing, Michigan.
