James Lee Cooper, born on September 11, 1960, in Topeka, Kansas, passed away suddenly on May 24, 2025, also in his hometown. He leaves behind a legacy marked by over 40 years as an over-the-road truck driver, a career he embraced with passion and enjoyment. Throughout his life, James was known not only for his adventurous spirit but also for the immense joy he derived from driving, whether it was long stretches of highway or leisurely trips through the countryside listening to Kid Rock.
James was a man of distinct personality; rough and stubborn, yet deeply personable. He was known for being set in his ways but always made it a point to look out for others, showcasing a caring nature that endeared him to friends and family alike. He cherished the moments spent with loved ones, particularly during family gatherings on holidays, which served as a source of great happiness for him. He had great experiences skating with his grand children. He really enjoyed anything with wheels.
His artistic side emerged early on, as he enjoyed drawing as a child, a passion that remained close to his heart. In later years, he took pride in strengthening his relationships with his family, reflecting a commitment to those he held dear.
James treasured the great outdoors, finding joy in fishing, mudding, and spending time with animals. He relished every opportunity to embrace nature, reveling in the beauty and tranquility it offered.
He is survived by his son, Troy Cooper; and his daughters, Gabrielle Cooper and Chassity Sanders. He was predeceased by his son, Eric Cooper, and his parents, Henry and Margaret Cooper. James Lee Cooper will be remembered fondly for the adventures he embarked upon and the love he shared with his family, leaving a lasting impression in the hearts of those who knew him.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2025, at Mount Hope Cemetery, 4700 SW 17th St, Topeka, KS 66604. Dove Cremations & Funerals, Southeast Chapel is assisting the family.
