James "Jim" L. Pruitt

James "Jim" Pruitt, 88, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025. He was born October 15, 1936 in Chanute, Kansas, the son of Everett and Genevieve (Chandler) Pruitt.

James graduated from Chanute High School. He served in the Marine Corps from 1955 - 1958 and later earned a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in History from St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, Kansas. James was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for 32 years before retiring.

James married Paula Jean Boyle on September 5, 1959. She preceded him in death on September 21, 2001. An infant granddaughter, Rachel also preceded him in death at birth.

Survivors include two children, James L. (Lois) Pruitt, Jr. of Holts Summit, Missouri, Diana (Brad) Wingfield of Marana, Arizona, eight grandchildren, Jamie, Brent, Taylor, Keri, Derek, Abby, Cassie and Annie and eight great-grandchildren.

A private Celebration of James's Life will be held at a later date. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the University of Kansas Cancer Center, P.O. Box 928, Lawrence, Kansas 66044.
