James Andrew “Jim” Pyles, 85, of Topeka, passed away Monday, December 22, 2025.

He was born January 21, 1940, in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Ray Sherman and Ruth Irene (McKee) Pyles. He moved to Wichita, Kansas with his family after WWII. He was a 1958 graduate of Wichita North High School, Wichita, KS, attended Kansas State University and graduated from Wichita State University with a bachelor degree in Science.

Jim was employed by the State of Kansas Department of Health and Environment, retiring in 2000.

He was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church, Topeka and the Topeka Tennis Association, Topeka.

Jim married Diane Haskin on June 6, 1964 in Wichita, KS. She survives in Topeka. Other survivors include his daughter, Susan Pyles; his three grandsons, Marccus Pyles, Makhi Baylor and Micah Baylor Pyles; his great-granddaughter, Serenity Pyles, all of Topeka; and his sister, Jean Wilt (John) of Danville, VA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Timothy Pyles; and his brother, Steven Pyles.

Jim loved spending time with family, especially watching his grandson’s tennis matches. He was an avid tennis player, playing team tennis and enjoyed attending tournaments. His other enjoyments include riding his motorcycle, and care of his 1967 GTO. He was also a K-State Wildcat fan.

Honoring his request, cremation is planned. A private family memorial ceremony will be held at a later date.

Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel in Topeka is assisting the family.
