Janet Lynn Diegel, 82, of Topeka, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 in her home.
She was born September 19, 1942, in Yates Center, Kansas, the daughter of Gordon and Ruby (Manifold) Cooper. She graduated from Yates Center High School in 1960. Janet married Garry L Diegel on August 21, 1960 in Yates Center, Kansas.
Janet was employed by the Old Way Station as Secretary and Hostess for many years. She later worked for Dillys Restaurant for 3 years.
Mrs. Diegel was a former member of the Countryside Methodist Church, of Topeka.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Garry Diegel. Other survivors include daughter, Kim Hutchison of Millington, Michigan; son, Kirk Diegel of Auburn, Kansas; grandchildren, Andy (Savannah) & Nick (Becky) Diegel and Mitch (Logan) Zuehlke; great grandchildren, Keller & Baker Diegel, Evy & Vaughn Diegel, and Revyn, Rowen, Arress & Brooks Zuehlke; and sister, Judy Franke of Atlanta, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Stosh Zuehlke.
Janet enjoyed camping out and fishing with family and playing cards with friends. She enjoyed playing golf with the girls on Friday nights at Berkshire Golf Course. Janet was also a great fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the KU Jayhawks Basketball and Football. She also enjoyed playing her guitar and singing to her children and grandchildren. She performed at the Pittsburg Kansas Jamboree while in high school also. She took pride in her cooking and tried to teach her husband Garry but couldn’t eat his meals. She was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother who loved her children and grandchildren. Her dog, Lexie, held a special place in her heart.
Janet’s wishes were to be cremated. A memorial ceremony will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, July 13,2025 at Dove Cremations & Funeral Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, Kansas. Her family will greet friends and relatives one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at held at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas.
