Jeanette Louise Jones (Zellmer), 80, of Topeka, passed away peacefully on August 11th, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born March 28th, 1946, in Atlantic, Iowa. The daughter of Alvin and Anna Margory Zellmer (Hilderbrand). She grew up in Villisca and Aimes, Iowa, before joining the U.S. Army Women's Army Corps.
After moving to Topeka, she worked for the State of Kansas and later for Big Lots and Walmart, and many would come to know her as JJ.
She was a kind and passionate soul who enjoyed spending time with family. She loved reading, especially romance and Chicken Soup for the Soul books. She found joy in needlepoint and crafting. Her handmade gifts will be treasured for years to come. She was a member of Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed her monthly visits from the Women’s Ministry while at her nursing home.
She married Floyd “Dell” Jones in 1984. She enjoyed their many motorcycle rides together. He preceded her in death, along with her parents, Alvin and Anna Margory, and her siblings, Alice Shoemaker, Richard Zellmer, Don and Jon Zellmer, Lana Zellmer, and Annette Zellmer.
Survivors include her children, Michael Grigsby (Cathy), Dianna Burton (Ron), and 5 grandchildren: Alexis Grigsby, Jacob Grigsby, Joseph Burton, Colton Burton, and Allison Burton.
A time to gather with family will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene, 3501 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS 66610. The Memorial Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. also at the church with refreshments following.
Memorial contributions can be made to Midland Hospice House.
