Dr. Jeffrey Fajardo, 63, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away on October 15, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jeff was born on November 8, 1961, in Manila, Philippines, the eldest child of Dr. Pedro Fajardo and Brenda Fajardo. He spent his childhood and adolescence in Chicago, Illinois, and developed hobbies and interests that would carry over into his adulthood, such as his love for reading murder mysteries and watching movies. He was a James Bond fanatic and could practically recite every line from “The Poseidon Adventure”.
Jeff graduated as a Doctor of Medicine from Far Eastern University in Manila, and he practiced as an endocrinologist in Topeka for 30 years. He considered his career in endocrinology as not just a profession, but a calling. He was committed to the highest standard of care to all his patients, and he drew from his love for mysteries to analytically understand the hormonal condition of each patient to treat them effectively. He was also committed to the nursing staff and other healthcare colleagues, many of whom retain the knowledge he shared from his lectures. Ask any of them what diabetes insipidus is, and they can still hear his lecture in their head thirty years later.
As much as he loved his profession, Jeff also loved to cultivate his personal life. He was a people person, and his charismatic personality made it so easy for him to form new acquaintanceships and nurture longstanding friendships. He was quite the storyteller, loved to make people laugh, and was always the life of the party. It was not unusual for him to step out briefly for a “fresh air” break and come back having made three more friends. He treated everyone equally, always saw the best in people, and was very quick to forgive. He also loved to travel. He had the good fortune to travel the world and was always planning for his next vacation.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Pedro Fajardo; his sister, Elaine Jane; and his beloved pets Natalia and Napoleon. He leaves behind a loving family: his mother, Brenda Fajardo; his siblings Eileen (Andy) Fajardo-Furlin, Edward (Larry Anderson) Fajardo, Eric Fajardo, and Erle (Alyssa) Fajardo; his nephew and nieces Bridget (Paul) De La Cruz, Iggy (Alyssa) Furlin, Bellis Furlin, and Cheyah Furlin; his grandnephews and grandnieces Nico, Mila, Cici, Autumn, Zoe, and Leo; and his beloved pets Delilah, Angelique, Gretel, Garth, and Gladys. He also leaves behind the Topeka Filipino community.
