Joan "Grammy" Ramsey

Joan “Grammy” Ramsey, 90, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. She was born December 8, 1935 in Richland, Kansas, the daughter of Hilan and Pearl (Pogue) Reed.

Joan attended Howard Grade School and graduated from Berryton High School in 1953. She was employed as a Sales Assistant for the American States Insurance Company for 29 years before retiring. She was a member of the Wagonear’s Camping Club and the Family Camper’s & Hikers Association. She liked to prank and pull shenanigans carefully and quietly.

Joan married Elmore R. “Rod” or “ShopPop” Ramsey on September 26, 1954 in Richland, Kansas. He preceded her in death on May 7, 2023. She was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Charlene Reed Shepard and Carol Reed Baughman.

Survivors include children, Candy (Michael) Bush of Topeka, Craig (Christy) Ramsey of Tecumseh, seven grandchildren, Michael (Nikki) Bush, Angela (Tom) Salazar, Matthew (Kara) Bush, Terri (Morgan) Dewey, Jenni (Ken) Balsmeier, Curtis (Erica) Ramsey and Danni (Andrew) Wodtke, and eighteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many friends that felt like they were her family.

A memorial visitation will take place from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2026 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. Graveside inurnment will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2026 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery southeast of Topeka.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the KSU Cancer Center, 1 Chalmers Hall, Manhattan, Kansas 66506.
