Joel D. Taylor, 79, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka. He was born October 10, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Marvin Franklin and Sada Arnene (Verdict) Taylor.

Joel attended Parkville High School in Parkville, Missouri. Joel served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a Carpenter for many years before retiring. Joel then went to work for Walmart for 20 years before retiring. He was a member of Carpenter’s Union.

Joel married Nancy L. Childers on February 1, 1969 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She survives. Other survivors include children, Nathan (Misti) Taylor of Rossville, Jason (Jennifer)Taylor of Topeka, four grandchildren, Colton, Jake, Sidni, Isaac, and his siblings, Brenda (David) Crawford and Lester (JoAnn) Taylor.

A Celebration of Joel's Life will be announced as soon as possible. Private inurnment will take place in Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250-0301.

Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with service arrangements.
