John Edward "J E" Davis, 93, of Auburn, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2022.
He was born January 23, 1929, in Bethany, Oklahoma, the son of Charles J. and Hazel (Neuenschwander) Davis and older brother of Charles M. Davis.
John married Effie Louise Fouts of Oswego, Kansas in September 11, 1948. She preceded him in death in 2003. He married Gloria Phillips in 2004. She preceded him in death in 2011.
Son of an itinerant Nazarene preacher, J E grew up during the Great Depression traveling the Southwestern U.S. He briefly attended Bethany Nazarene College. Marriage and the three children that followed ended his college days and he then worked for KDOT the next 30 years. He then retired and with Effie established Davis House Antiques that led them to travel the U.S.
John is survived by his son, Doug (Sally) of Topeka, his daughter, Cynthia (Mike) Pfannenstiel of Auburn, KS and his son, Mike (Kathy) of Canadian, OK; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Charles M. Davis; and a great-grandson, Riley Pfannenstiel.
A man of strong faith and conviction he is loved by his family and will be missed by all those who knew him.
Honoring his request, cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at a 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene, 3501 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS 66614. Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel in Topeka is assisting the family. Service information will be posted as soon as it becomes available. Please check back later for more information.
