John W. Edington, 88, of Tecumseh, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Brookside Retirement Center in Overbrook. He was born January 16, 1937 in Hartford, Kansas, the son of Leo and Ethel (Huffman) Edington.
John graduated from Lebo High School. He was employed by the Kansas Army National Guard for 42 years before retiring. He was a member of the Town & Country Christian Church.
John married Dixie A. Mattox on October 14, 1956 in Ottumwa, Kansas. She preceded him in death on May 17, 2020.
Survivors include children, Danny (Joyce) Edington of Lecompton, David (Tammy) Edington of Topeka, Duane (Leann) Edington of Berryton, three grandchildren, Jerrod (Jax) Edington, Jordyn (Alan) Smith and Charles (Bella) Edington, seven great-grandchildren, Jake, Jayson, Sam, Charlie, Weston, Watson, and Wryatt.
John was preceded in death by his seven siblings, James, Rosalie, Florence, Charles “Billy”, Leo “Bobby”, Ralph, and Imagene.
Services will be at held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. Graveside services will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Bowman-Adgate Cemetery in New Strawn, Kansas. John will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2025 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Good Samaritan Fund at Brookside Retirement Center, 700 West 7th St., Overbrook, Kansas 66524.
