Leroy Rae Duncan

August 23, 1932 — June 13, 2023

LeRoy Rae Duncan, 90, of Wamego, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023.

He was born August 23, 1932, in Westmoreland, Kansas, the son of Howard and Isabel (Jenkins) Duncan. He attended school in Westmoreland. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

LeRoy was an electrician for Endacott Electric in Manhattan, Kansas and was a member of IBEW Electrical Workers Union No. 226, retiring in 1997.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wamego and American Legion Post No. 172 of Wamego.

LeRoy married Lona Honaker on June 10, 1966 in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives in Wamego. Other survivors include five children, Lisa (Steve) Baker of Bartlesville, OK, Kirk (Lisa) Duncan of Kansas City, MO, Romona (Dion) Pearce of Denver, CO, Janelle (Everett) Wookey of Oklahoma City, OK and Michael (Andrea) Duncan of Gardner, KS; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Dale Duncan; five siblings, Clyde "Trigger" Duncan, Alice Spaulding, Ted Duncan, Carol Jean Geisler and Donna Stephenson.

LeRoy loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. He was a talented cake decorator, baking and decorating cakes for his family on many occasions and wedding cakes for others. He thought everything could be fixed with electrical tape and wiring nuts. He was as humble as they came and had a good sense of humor to go along with it. He never had an unkind word to say about anyone and was respected by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed by all, but especially by his children, grandchildren and his loving wife Lona.

Honoring his request, cremation is planned. A private graveside service for the family will be held at Fort Riley Cemetery, Fort Riley, Kansas. The family will welcome friends in LeRoy's honor, Friday July 7, 2023 from 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the Iron Clad Working, 427 Lincoln Ave, Wamego, KS, 66547.

Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel in Topeka is assisting the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post #172, 900 Sandusky Ave, Wamego, KS, 66547.
