Lori Ann Shelton

Lori Ann Shelton, 62, of Topeka, passed away in her home after a long, courageous battle with cancer, Friday, December 26, 2025.

She was born March 9, 1963, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Robert and Maxine (McKibben) Mulligan. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1981. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Kansas State University. She also obtained a Bachelor’s in Nursing from Baker University.

Lori was employed with the VA Hospital of Topeka for many years, until retiring. She volunteered many years of life and love with Saving Death Row Dogs.

Mrs. Shelton was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Lori married Leroy Shelton on April 1, 1989 at the First Lutheran Church of Topeka. Leroy preceded her in passing on April 4, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Lori is survived by her sister, Jeanette (Michael) Lewis; nephews, Kevin (Brooke) Lewis and Kyle (Allison) Lewis; great nieces, Brynn, Chloe, Abigail and Kendall Lewis; great nephew, Camden Lewis; friends, Karen Roepke, Carrie Howell, Tracy Paige and many other beloved friends and family; and many many fur babies.

Lori had a love for animals whether she was rescuing dogs and cats or fostering dogs. She had a love for horses, riding and showing them and winning many prestigious awards. She had a passion for fashion especially when it came to her jewelry. She enjoyed quilting, attending Comic-cons, and traveling particularly to visit her family in New York.

A Celebration of her life will be held from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2026 at Mount Hope Chapel, 4700 SW 17th St, Topeka, Kansas 66604. Inurnment for Lori and her beloved husband, Leroy will follow immediately after and all are invited to attend.
