Lowell Ernest Bird, 83, Berryton, joined our Savior on Saturday, September 15, 2012. He was born May 20, 1929 to Ernest A. and Minnie A. (Hill) Bird, near Hope, Kansas.
Lowell farmed as well as created and operated a milk route through Dickinson County, delivering milk in Junction City. He married Carol R. Silvius, Easter Sunday, April 9, 1950. They moved to Topeka in 1954 where Lowell worked for McCormick Furniture Co. prior to hiring on to Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in 1955. While working at Goodyear for 33 years, Lowell was in partnership of the Bird and Schultz Construction Co., who built the family home in Berryton. He was a member of Berryton United Methodist Church. Lowell enjoyed square dancing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, daughter, Janis, both of the home, son Roy (Luann) of Auburn, KS, three grandchildren, Laura (Wade) Manion, Bloomington, IL, Cody (Amy) Bird, Derby, KS and Paul Bird, Manhattan, KS, sister, Aileen Hanschu, Marion, KS, nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenneth Bird.
A funeral ceremony celebrating Lowell's life will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 20 at Berryton United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Inurnment will take place at Pilgrim's Home Cemetery near Hope, Kansas on Saturday, September 22 at 11:00 am.
