Maelie "Miles" Kathryn Marie Timberlake

Maelie "Miles" Kathryn Marie Timberlake, beloved child, friend, and inspiration, passed away on July 24, 2026 at Children's Mercy Hospital, after a courageous 16-month battle with cancer. In their final days, Miles was surrounded by the love and support of family. Born on April 21, 2009, Miles brought joy, kindness, and creativity to everyone they met.

Family was the loving foundation of Miles' life. They are survived by their devoted parents, Adam and Kodie Timberlake, and beloved sister and best friend Haven Timberlake. Miles also leaves behind their grandparents Fred & Carla Timberlake and Terry & Lazette Randel, uncle Drew (Lauren) Timberlake; aunts Megan (Reid) Kapple, Colette (Huston) Thompson, and Stacy Randel; and cherished cousins Anna Smith, Oliver Timberlake, Ezra Timberlake, Lois Timberlake, Lula Kapple, Jane Kapple, Pearl Kapple, and Eddie Kapple.

From an early age, Miles' light shone brightly at Cair Paravel Latin School and continued to shine throughout their years at Washburn Rural Middle School and Washburn Rural High School. A friend to everyone they met, Miles was known for their warmth, infectious laughter, and deep empathy. They had a remarkable gift for bringing smiles to others and lifting spirits, even while facing their own challenges. Miles' presence brought comfort, joy, and belonging to all who knew them.

Miles' creativity overflowed into everything they did. Whether sewing, painting, or crafting, Miles was always working on a project. Their love for animals was especially evident in the care of their cat, Chicken. Miles' talents bloomed in many directions. They danced with grace and passion from the age of three with Barbara's Conservatory of Dance and was a company dancer for Ballet Midwest. In choir, orchestra, theater and arts, Miles' expressive nature shone brightly.

Education was just one path where Miles excelled, gaining recognition in the National Honor Society (NHS), but their proudest accomplishment extended beyond accolades. Miles authored and illustrated The Art of Being Sick, a book revealing what it's like having cancer as a teenager. Their hope was that their book would be a source of comfort to other teenagers facing similar circumstances. No matter the obstacle, Miles gave their wholes heart to everything they did and never wavered in standing up for what they believed in.

From the moment of their diagnosis, Miles chose hope and optimism. At Children's Mercy, they became known for spreading joy by handing out stickers and making bracelets for their care team. Their quick wit and joyful sense of humor brought levity to every situation. Above all, Miles; unwavering faith in God and deep love for others were reflected in everything they did.

The legacy Miles leaves behind is one of laughter, kindness, and boundless creativity. Though their time was far too short, the impact they made is immeasurable. As the Timberlake and Randel families remember and honor Miles, they echo the words spoken so often about them: Miles was truly a friend to all and the source of endless kindness and joy.

Family will hold a private memorial service for Maelie “Miles” Kathryn Marie Timberlake. A public visitation will follow on August 8, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at The Barn at Randelwood Estates, 1629 E 800 Rd, Lawrence, KS 66049.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Children's Mercy Hospital, Ballet Midwest, or Washburn Rural Theater Department.
