Marie Dottie Holt, born on May 8, 1955, in Kansas City, Kansas, passed peacefully on July 19, 2025, in Topeka. She led a life filled with purpose, warmth, and dedication, which she shared generously with those around her.

Marie began her career at Security Benefit, where she laid the foundation for a remarkable professional journey. Following this, she served as the Executive Secretary for the Lutheran Church of Kansas Missouri Synod, a position she cherished for 25 years. In the political arena, Marie spent a decade as a legislative committee assistant and later as a legislative office assistant, roles that allowed her to connect with people from all walks of life across the state of Kansas. She thrived on building relationships and found joy in engaging with the community.

Her educational journey began on a farm east of Holton, Kansas, where she grew up amidst expansive fields. She graduated from Holton High School in 1973 and pursued further studies at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran College for a year following high school. Later in life she pursued an education in social work at Washburn University. These experiences fostered her love for the beauty of nature, particularly springtime, a season she held dear throughout her life.

Marie's spirit was characterized by her genuine love for people. She embraced her roles as a devoted stepmother, friend, wife, and aunt with unparalleled dedication. Known for her caring heart, Marie excelled as a caregiver who took great joy in nurturing relationships with friends and family. Her creativity blossomed in various hobbies, including decorating her home with flowers, playing cards with friends, and sharing precious moments with her grandchildren while engaging in lively games of LCR. Additionally, Marie was a proud lady involved with the Arab Shriners, a testament to her deep-seated commitment to community service.

She leaves behind her beloved husband of 35 years, Alan Holt, along with their children: Scot Holt, Carrie (Mike) Mathews, and Norrie Holt. Marie was particularly proud of her grandchildren: Kyle Holt, Amanda Holt, Garrett Mathews, TJ Mathews, and Grady Mathews. She also cherished many dear nieces and nephews, who will keep her spirit alive through their memories.

Marie is predeceased by her parents, Raphael and Dorothy Wenger, who instilled in her the values of kindness and community that she carried throughout her life.

In remembering Marie Dottie Holt, we celebrate a life that was rich with love, connection, and an unwavering desire to uplift those around her. Her legacy of compassion and commitment will inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
