An angel has left this worldly earth, to graduate to become a legitimate angel in heaven. Mary “Missy” Brauner (Bloomquist) has taken her next journey, this time, her final journey to be with Jesus in heaven. Missy passed away Saturday, January 10th, 2026, leaving behind her pride and joys, her two sons Jeremy Brauner (41), and Derik Brauner (38) and his wife Lindsay.
Missy was born October 21, 1959, in Topeka, was raised in Burlingame, KS by her parents Norman Bloomquist (deceased) and Shirley “Darlene” Fisher/Bloomquist (deceased), along with her two older brothers Rick and Bob Bloomquist.
Raised in 4H, she was also a Bearcats cheerleader, Queen of Courts, and Girls State. When Missy got older, she moved to Topeka, where she worked at Stormont Vail. After getting married and having her two kids, Missy would be a stay-at-home mom, where she would maintain a spotless house, clean clothes, and was active in her boy’s schools, and an avid Baseball Mom. In 2002, Missy would then go back to work at Stormont Vail/Cotton O’Neil, where she would remain employed until the time of her passing, with her passion and love for her career, patients and her coworkers, this was her goal to never retire. She was described as “An Angel in Scrubs” when she received the prestigious Pusitz award, plus many more accolades for her outstanding performance and shinning bright attitude.
In 2008, Missy survived a life-threatening motorcycle accident where she lost her boyfriend Ron and spent years recovering with many surgeries. As always, Missy would continue to shine her love and trust in Jesus, never losing hope and giving God the glory. When most would be bitter, not Missy, she impacted so many people daily with her encouraging, joyful spirit and her loving heart. Anyone who knew Missy knew they were in the presence of a shining star. Anyone who met Missy knew the impact of her presence, and her tenacity, but most of all, her positive attitude and selfless actions.
She will be missed by her surviving family; brothers and sister-in-law (Betty), nieces and nephews, many cousins, second cousins, aunts and uncles, but most of all, her boys who she raised to assure that they will see her again in heaven. We love you, Mama Bear.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 22nd, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11 a.m. at Fellowship Bible Church, 6800 SW 10th Street, Topeka, Kansas 66615 in Topeka. A grave site ceremony will be held at Burlingame Cemetery at 1:30p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Missy would love for others to share her faith by gifting a Bible to someone who doesn’t yet have one.
