MaryJo Hastings, 84, of Berryton, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025. She was born November 26, 1940 in Belvue, Kansas, the daughter of Carl O. and Margaret L. (Failer) Heston, Sr.
MaryJo graduated from Highland Park High School in 1958. She was employed as a Dental Tech for Dr. Robert G. Jackson for over 20 years and later went to work for Aries Dental Lab.
MaryJo was a very talented artist who painted with oil, acrylic and watercolor. She also quilted, and was an excellent cook and pie maker. No one else could make a pie like her.
MaryJo married James "Jim" Hastings Jr. on August 29, 1958 at the home of her parents in Topeka. He preceded her in death on February 21, 2024. MaryJo was also preceded in death by two sons, Shawn Hastings and Shane Hastings.
Survivors include children, Geri (George) Cummings of Berryton, Stephani (Kelley) Land of Berryton, six grandchildren, Chelsea (Adam), Katelyn (Jay), Scott, Ansley (Andrew Sr.), Shawn and Audrey, nine great-grandchildren, Colt, Ava, Angelika, Kyndal, Emma, Andrew Jr., Jason, Abernathy, Wilhelmina, her sister, Carol White, and daughter-in-law, Karolyn Hastings.
A Celebration of MaryJo's Life will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Private inurnment will take place in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Southwest Indian Foundation, 100 W. Coal Ave., Gallup, New Mexico 87301 or to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606.
