Michael D. "Mike" Theis

Michael D. "Mike" Theis, 74, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026. He was born August 9, 1951 in Topeka, the son of Charles A. and Patricia A. (Beedy) Theis, Jr.

Mike graduated from Highland Park High School in 1969 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Music from Emporia State University. He was a retired, professional jazz musician. Music was his life.

Survivors include his sister, Kathleen A. Getto of Colorado Springs, Colorado, his nephew, Chris Thompson and his niece, Stacey Lawton, and several great nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, nephew, Marcus Thompson and his brother-in-law, Paul R. Getto.

A private Celebration of Mike's life will be held at a later date. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Topeka Jazz Workshop, TJW, Inc., P.O. Box 452, Topeka, Kansas 66601.

Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with service arrangements.
