Phyllis H. Silkey

Phyllis H. Silkey, 99, of Topeka, passed away on September 8, 2026.

She was born on May 15, 1927, in Jefferson County, KS and was the daughter of Edward and Minnie (Button) Buerman. Phyllis retired in 1988 from Kansas Power & Light and was a member of Lakeview Church of the Nazarene.

She married Don F. Silkey on June 9, 1946 at the North Lawrence Christian Church in Lawrence, KS. He preceded her in death on February 10, 2010. Survivors include her children, Bruce (Sue) Silkey and Brett Silkey; six grandchildren, Bruce Jr. (Audra) Silkey, Luke (Kathy) Silkey, Charley Matson, Wesley Matson, Angela Silkey and Chalen White; five great-grandchildren, Whitney Silkey-Perez (Jesse), Mal Silkey (Emma), Katie Beth Silkey, Kari Silkey, Jacob Silkey, and Julian Fry; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Debbie Sayler on January 27, 2026; two sisters, Mary Hayden and Bobby Crummet; and two brothers, Leroy Buerman and Jim Buerman.

Phyllis loved spending time with her family, her cats and cooking. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, needle work and traveling with Don.

The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m., Monday, September 14, 2026, at Dove Cremations & Funerals, Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave, Topeka, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Underwood Cemetery, east of Perry, KS.
