Rhonda Lea Hutton was born February 23, 1969, in Topeka, Kansas. Raised by her parents Bill and Linda Williams, Rhonda attended Perry-Lecompton schools and was a strong student. She was in the gifted program and named a Kansas Honor Scholar. Interested in a variety of activities, Rhonda was also an outstanding flutist in band as well as a cheerleader. She played many sports and especially enjoyed softball. Hobbies included water sports, live music, and baking as well as accomplishment in art. Rhonda was fiercely loyal to her many friends and always there to support them in difficult and challenging times. She always had your back. Rhonda’s friends and family especially enjoyed her sense of humor and sharp wit. She could always make you laugh. Rhonda also worked very hard all her life. Starting as a teenager, she always had one or two jobs.

Rhonda earned a scholarship to attend Kansas State University and completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Kansas earning a degree in philosophy. She later moved to Houston, Texas to attend the University of Houston College of Optometry and earned her Doctorate in Optometry. Dr. Hutton worked in Texas and later returned to Kansas to practice.

Dr. Hutton worked for several groups and eye care centers over time and made the leap to start her own eyecare practice during the COVID outbreak. Dr. Hutton built Hutton Family Eye Care from the ground up and the business was thriving. She was known for her compassionate and competent care of patients, and she had a caring and understanding style that worked well for her patients, regardless of age or circumstance. Rhonda was grateful to her long-time employee “Cat” who worked for years alongside her. Hutton Family Eye Care will be missed in the Lawrence community.

Rhonda was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2025 and fought the good fight for the past year. She faced cancer like many other challenges in her past - meeting it head on and doing everything in her power to continue caring for her family. She passed away on July 6, 2026.

Rhonda is survived by two sons: Aidan and Ian Hutton. She is also survived by her parents Bill and Linda Williams. Rhonda was devoted to the care and upbringing of Aidan and Ian. She loved to support them in education, activities and work, and often shared pictures and accolades about their achievements with friends and family. Her mother, Linda was a pillar for Rhonda her entire life, and she and Bill were the best parents and caretakers one could hope for.

Rhonda loved animals and had a dog by her side whenever possible. She is survived by her pets Buster and Lily. Rhonda rescued Lily and bottle fed her. Rhonda’s generosity and kindness to animals was unique and the pups loved her unconditionally and were always by her side.

Rhonda Hutton was an amazing and compassionate soul. She was a mischievous and smart daughter. Rhonda was a strong woman, mother, businessperson, and friend for life.

A private Celebration of Rhonda's Life will be held at a later date. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
