Rhonda S. Mercer

Rhonda Susan Mercer, 71, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

Rhonda was born January 22, 1955, in Wichita, Kansas, to Hubert and Marieda (Brin) Newell. She graduated from South High School and went on to build a life centered around hard work, family, and the people she loved.

Rhonda dedicated 41 years of her life to Misty Glen Apartments with Fidelity Management. She retired in 2018, leaving behind a long legacy of commitment and hard work.

Those who knew Rhonda knew she had a personality all her own. She was independent, strong-willed, and had a wonderfully ornery sense of humor that could bring a smile to anyone’s face. She loved watching and feeding the squirrels, traveling when she was able, shopping, and enjoying her favorite sweet treats. But more than anything, Rhonda treasured her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with the people she loved and watching her family grow.

She leaves behind her children, Jason (Rachel) Mercer and Megan Mercer; grandchildren Ryan (Josie) Blankenship, Douglas (Danae) Mercer, Vanessa (Jacob) Anderson, and Michael Seal; and great-grandchildren Jaxon Blankenship, Cade Blankenship, Haelynn Blankenship, Beckett Mercer, Easton Mercer, Braeson Anderson, and Hayes Anderson. She is also survived by her siblings, Bryan (Sherry) Newell and Cathey (Tony) Mora.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Marieda Newell; her siblings, Keith Newell, Sherlene Newell, Kelly Newell, Randy Newell, Sammy Newell, and Blaine Newell; and her grandson, Mason Mercer.

Rhonda’s love, laughter, independence, and ornery spirit will be deeply missed. Though she is no longer here, the memories she created with her family will live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

Cremation is planned. A memorial ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 9, 2026, at Dove Cremations & Funerals – Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, Kansas 66610. A reception will follow the service at Dove Southwest Chapel.
