Richard "Mark" O'Neill, 70, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born June 11, 1955 in Leavenworth, Kansas, the son of Richard W. and Agnes J. (Kueny) O'Neill.
Mark was a graduate of Highland Park High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in General Education from the University of Kansas. His professional life included many years as a financial planner, followed by work as a Realtor with the Keller Williams Agency. In retirement, he continued to engage with others through his position at a local Dillons grocery store, where his appreciation for good food and friendly connection brought him great joy. A lifelong animal lover, he frequently visited Lawrence Humane Society, where he donated needed items and ultimately adopted two cherished cats.
In his later years, Mark found great joy spending time with his beloved wife, Linda Shufelberger. Together, they share memories of trying new restaurants and recreating old recipes in their own kitchen - his Nana’s 4 0’clock cookies being one of his favorites. Mark and Linda also enjoyed a few beach vacations, where their shared love of good food continued to thrive.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Linda. Other survivors include one daughter from a previous marriage, Sarah Brianna (Tyler) Rorrer, two grandchildren, Hazel and Silas, his stepchildren, Carianne (Brian) Cornell, Amber Hundley, and Jacob (Elizabeth) Cuevas, four step-grandchildren, Madelyn, Breckston, Mila and Joe. Additional survivors include his mother, Agnes J. O'Neill; Father-in-law Duane Shufelberger; his siblings, Jim (Sherry) O'Neill, Becky Hutchins, Betsy (Ken) Scott, Andy (Joni) O'Neill, and Chris (Connie) O'Neill. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Richard, mother-in-law Joan Shufelberger, and great nephew Kade Allen.
A private Celebration of Mark's Life will be held at a later date. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Lawrence Humane Society, 1805 E. 19th Street, Lawrence, Kansas 66044.
