Robert E. "Bob" Brown, 97, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025 at a Topeka hospital. He was born May 28, 1928 in Meriden, Kansas, the son of Lawrence “Doc” and Bessie (Spillman) Brown.
Bob graduated from Perry Rural High School in 1946 and attended Clark Business School from1947-1948. He was an Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War stationed in Germany. He was employed as an accountant by Gregg Tire Company for 52 years before retiring in 2012. He was a dedicated member and leader of Countryside Christian Church. He was baptized in April 1964. He was an avid gardener who kept his garden growing for 60+ years.
Bob married Doris D. Hitchens on April 18, 1959 in Lyndon, Kansas. She preceded him in death on February 2, 2019. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Brown; and brother, John Brown.
Survivors include four children, Debbie (Jim) Davis of Auburn, Vicki (William) Slack of Wamego, Shelly (Jim) Vasey of Wichita and Randy (Sharon) Brown of Holts Summit, MO; 7 grandchildren, Travis (Misty) Catlin, Matthew (Bri) Kastner, Krystin (Alex) Gilpin, Drew (Roberta) Kastner, Zac (Caroline)Vasey, Courtney (Jeff) Strawderman and Dustin Brown; 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, Don Brown, Kenny Brown, and Roy Brown; and sister, Helen (Charles) Worthington.
A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 15, 2025 at the Countryside Christian Church, 3635 NE Highway K4, Topeka, KS 66617 where the family will receive friends the hour prior to the service. Private inurnment will take place at Grantville Cemetery in Grantville, Kansas at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Countryside Christian Church, 3635 NE Highway K4, Topeka, KS 66617 or to Meals on Wheels, 2134 SW Westport Dr, Topeka, KS 66614 or to Revive Church, 9507 E Winner Rd, Independence, MO 64053.
