Robert (Bob) Scheibe
Born in Cloquet MN on June 19, 1936 to Harold Richard Scheibe Sr and Evelyn Scheibe
Older brother Harold Richard (Dick) Scheibe, Jr of Duluth MN and younger sister Gretchen Scheibe, Ft Myers FL survive.
Growing up in northern Minnesota he developed a love for the outdoors – hunting and fishing. He participated in Boy Scouts and worked in summer at his Uncle Al’s farm. He would reflect fondly and share stories about his time as a camp counselor at Thistledew Correctional Camp in the far north woods of Minnesota.
He graduated from Cloquet High school in 1954. Served as a merchant seaman in Untied States Coast Guard for 10 days in 1959. After college he earned Master’s degree in Hospital Administration from University of Minnesota at Duluth. In 1967 he moved to South Bend IN to work at Memorial Hospital where he met Carol (Barnfield) Hitchcock, later married June 19, 1969 (Just before a man walked on the moon!)
His two daughters, Elizabeth and Cynthia, were born in Indiana, then the family to Topeka in late 1980 for work 3-4 years at Memorial Hospital. After leaving hospital work he was a financial planner for about 25 years. He then had ownership in a medical staff service company for 8 years.
In Topeka he was a member of Lowman United Methodist Church and joined the Breakfast Optimist club. He liked fishing for trout at Lake Shawnee. Friends would come visit and they would go pheasant hunting. He had a large garden in both Indiana and Kansas.
His parents owned a 2-bedroom summer cabin on Sand Lake in Moose Lake MN. He inherited this property and in retirement he worked over many years to build a house on that property. He enjoyed summers there, looking out at the water. He would also help his cousin with farm chores.
Observant, often quiet, he had a sense of humor and could bring a laugh with few words.
Bob helped instill a love of reading for family members by paying for books read. As well, he supported his daughter’s education – until they were done or got married.
Survived by his brother and sister, daughter Elizabeth (Chris) Sollazzo and her daughters Rachel Grysban, Sarah New, and Julia New, his daughter Cynthia (Scott Lemmon) Scheibe, great-granddaughter Grysban due November 12 and many cousins and extended family.
He is proceeded in death by his wife of almost 50 years and son-in-law, Jimmy New.
In lieu of flowers or donations, Bob would encourage you to invest in your future.
His wish was for cremation with burial to follow in Cloquet, MN at Hillcrest West Cemetery.
