Listen to Obituary

Rose Mary Dietz, née Schneider, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on July 5, 2026, in Topeka, KS at the inspiring age of 100. Rose was born on December 29, 1925, in Olmitz, KS, and from the very beginning her life was filled with warmth, creativity, and the deep ties of family and community that she cherished above all else.

Rose's story began amidst the quiet beauty of rural Kansas, where she graduated from Olmitz High School in 1943. From an early age, her industrious spirit and dedication to those around her shaped the paths she walked. Working on the family farm, she developed a lifelong appreciation for hard work, togetherness, and tradition—values she would nurture within her own family across the decades.

She was united in marriage to Louis Dietz, with whom she shared a life of devotion, laughter, and partnership. Together, they built a home where love was an everyday language. Though Louis preceded her in death, their enduring bond was evident in every aspect of Rose’s life, and the lessons they imparted together remain a living legacy through their children and grandchildren.

Rose was the heart of her family, and family was everything to her. She welcomed each new arrival and change with arms open wide. She is lovingly remembered by her son Rick Dietz and his wife Pam, her daughter Geralynn Rumold and her husband Tony, and her son-in-law Jim Steiner. Her memory lives on in her grandchildren: Amy Steiner, Troy Steiner and his wife Ashley, Scott Steiner, Christy Henry, Ryan Dietz, Jill Easley and her husband Ty, Aaron Dietz, Brittany Rumold, and Kaylin Johns and her husband Adam. There are also 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who will carry her legacy forward.

Rose’s life was not untouched by loss. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louis, her dear daughter Patricia Steiner, three brothers, and a sister. Still, her resilience and gentle spirit never wavered, even in grief. The example she set became her family’s guiding light.

A woman of many talents and interests, Rose found joy in the simplest pleasures and shared them generously with others. She was a gifted oil painter, a baker and cook whose kitchen was always welcoming, and she approached crafts with the same meticulous care she gave to everything else in her life. Her hands shaped more than recipes—they crafted memories, especially when she decorated and baked for holiday get-togethers on the farm. Rose enjoyed her days at the Redwing Store with her sister, Marge, baking cinnamon rolls and making smoked sausage. Rose was renowned for her participation in recipe contests and delighted in the camaraderie of Bingo games or the comfortable routine of watching “The Price is Right.” She also cherished her time gardening, tending not just to plants but to the connections that grew among her loved ones.

Traveling to the Colorado mountains, spending time with friends and visiting relatives were highlights that she treasured. Her strong faith was ever-present—a source of comfort and hope, and an anchor throughout her journey.

The tapestry of Rose’s life is woven with kindness, generosity, and steadfast devotion. Those who knew her will remember her gentle laughter, her legendary holiday treats, her loving encouragement, and her quiet strength. Her legacy is found in the hearts of those she touched, and she will be missed beyond measure.

A Celebration in honor of Rose’s life and legacy will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 122 East Fifth St, Hoisington, KS 67544.
