Roy Mark Rice

Mark Rice, our friend and brother, was a kind, gentle and generous soul. Always ready to help his friends, never groaning about it. In fact, you’d usually be met with a smile and real concern for how you were doing. That sweet disposition was wrapped in a bit of rebellion as well; just enough to give him a bit of balance and some good stories to entertain with.

Mark was a graduate of Topeka West, class of 1979. He then attended Washburn University, graduating with a degree in Psychology and Communications. Growing up in Topeka in the 1970’s Mark could recall the haunts and experiences of a lot of his peers and could take you down memory lane, laughing all the while.

It was the gentle kindness Mark possessed that stood out to his future wife Carol. The love and friendship they shared endured 29 years. The hole left by his passing will be a struggle she’ll strive to endure for another 29 years.

Mark loved to fish. The home dotted by photos of “The Catch of the Day” over the years. No less than 11 rods and reels displayed around the photos.

Weather was another passion of Marks. Storms will always be the highlight of summer. He loved to chase them. He’d get in his truck and head out whichever direction promised the best show.

Mark will be sorely missed by his friends and family, by his wife Carol, his brother Eric Rice (Claire), his sister, Sue Mignacca (Tom) and many more.

There will be a private celebration of life attended by the family.
