Scott Ballou, 75, passed away April 27, 2025, while watching Star Trek: TNG in his favorite chair. This detail is not irrelevant; the bold optimism of the series and its fascination with technology and humanity illustrate Scott’s gentle spirit perfectly. Scott kept many of the home PCs in Topeka running through the 1990s and 2000s, first during his many years working at Wolfe’s downtown and then starting his own company, Ballou Computer Repairs. This is a career he could not have imagined as a boy growing up in Alhambra, California, but his curiosity always propelled him to learn about emerging technologies. Scott served in the US Air Force, which is what brought him to Topeka where he met the love of his live, Sally Ballou née Jones and there they raised their children, Dr. Hannah Ballou of London and Reese Ballou of Topeka. Scott was an incredibly warm and caring father and husband who supported his family with quiet strength. He volunteered at Topeka Civic Theatre as videographer for many years while Sally graced the stages. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Betty Ballou and his wife Sally. He is survived by his children Hannah & Reese, grandchildren Georgia, Anthony, Dominic, and Wolfgang, and sisters Janice Urquhart and Karen King. He will be deeply missed and will be remembered by all who knew him.
Donations in Scott's memory may be made to Topeka Civic Theatre.
