Sharlyn Iris Neis, 97, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2026.
She was born July 9, 1928, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Walter and Marjorie (O'Neill) Firestone. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1946 and attended Clark's School of Business.
Sharlyn married Donald Marcel Neis on February 21, 1947, at First Baptist Church of Topeka. They enjoyed almost 72 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on February 10, 2019. She also was preceded in death by her parents, son, Ron Dee Neis, and her granddaughter, Rhonda Sharlyn Neis.
She is survived by sons, Mark Walter Neis (Jill Michaux) of Topeka, and Bradford Craig (Patti) Neis of Springfield, MO; daughter-in-law, Clydale Neis; grandchildren, Ryan Walter (Caty) Neis, Kyle Dee Neis (Jennifer Bolinder), Michelle Meredith Neis (Fritz Helbert), Jason Bradford Neis, Wade Bradford Neis, and Aaron Bradford Neis; and seven great-grandchildren.
Sharlyn was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. For nearly 20 years, she cared for neighborhood children from Potwin Grade School before and after school. She was a dedicated grandmother who doted on her grandchildren. She worked for the Neis & Michaux Law Firm for six years. For the past nine years, she lived at Health Care Resort of Topeka where she made many close friendships with residents and staff. She was chosen as a president of the Residents Council.
Sharlyn had fun playing canasta with a regular circle of friends for many years. In retirement, Sharlyn and Don traveled with their family coast to coast.
Following her wishes, cremation is planned. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Mount Hope Chapel, 4700 SW 17th St, Topeka, KS 66604. Family visitation will be in the chapel foyer at 10:00 a.m.
