Sharon Kay Hurst, 82, of Lawrence, passed away peacefully in the morning on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
She was born April 17, 1943 in Grand Island, Nebraska, the daughter of Alvey and Delma (Moxham) Craven. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1961. She attended Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and Hastings College. She was a registered nurse. Sharon was employed by Stormont Vail Hospital in pediatrics, Pediatrics PA, and Pediatrics Associates, retiring in 2008.
Sharon married Kenneth F. Hurst on February 3, 1965 in Grand Island, Nebraska. He survives. Other survivors include daughter, Amy (Phil) Rosewicz and grandchildren, Katherine Rosewicz and Jill Rosewicz. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Jody Hurst.
Mrs. Hurst was a member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, of Topeka. Sharon loved spending time with her family and had a heart for caring for others. She took care of many children beyond her own. Her husband, affectionately dubbed Kenny Francis, was her person to the very end. She enjoyed crafts such as painting, wood carving, ceramics, needle point, and crochet. Some of her pieces remain in the homes of her daughter and grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking (almost as much as her husband enjoyed eating it). She was also incredibly flexible, amazing her family. Even as Alzehemier’s took her abilities to participate in many of her hobbies, she was still able to enjoy yoga.
Sharon’s wishes were for cremation. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Dove Cremations & Funerals Southwest Chapel 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS 66610. A small celebration will be held at Cedarhurst in Lawrence for residents and staff at a later date. Private interment for family will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Topeka, KS.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution made to Ascend Hospice Care, 2835 SW Mission Woods Suite C, Topeka, KS 66614, or Alzheimer’s Association, 8001 Conser Suite 240, Overland Park, KS 66204.
