Shawne Michael McMillan, affectionately known as "Shawnecie" and "Monkey Brain," passed away on September 17, 2025, in Topeka, KS after a short battle with cancer. Born on November 11, 1970, Shawne lived a richly fulfilling life, leaving behind numerous cherished memories and friendships.
Shawne’s dedication to helping those around him was evident in his service to the community, often seen mowing the yards of neighbors and friends. His kindness was an integral part of his personality; quick-witted and full of humor, he brought joy to many with his jokes and friendly conversations. Shawne was a sports enthusiast, passionately following current sports and particularly relishing the excitement of the March Madness and Final Four tournaments. He not only played football during his high school days at Highland Park High School but also enjoyed being active outdoors, whether through sports or by being on the move.
Family gatherings during holidays were precious to Shawne, where laughter and camaraderie filled the air. He took great joy in sharing special moments with loved ones, often treating them to outings at their favorite restaurants or attending a Kansas City Chiefs football game together. Loved his time with his Aunt's, Uncle's and cousins.
In addition to his active lifestyle, Shawne was an avid collector. His passion for collecting sports cards and car shirts added a unique flair to his interests, as did his enjoyment of trying new foods, with Chinese cuisine being his favorite. He loved attending cruise nights on the boulevard, where he watched the street rods while sharing moments with friends on Topeka Boulevard.
Shawne is survived by his beloved pets, Moe the Cat and Roscoe the Dog; his brother, Richard Paul McMillan; his father, Dwayne (Judy) McMillan; his step-sister, Susan Williams; and his nephews, Cody Lee (Sara) McMillan and Drew Williams, as well as his niece, Haylee Williams.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Ann Steinbock, and his sister, Christina McMillan.
A visitation in honor of Shawne will be held on September 22, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Southeast Chapel, located at 2843 SE Minnesota Ave, Topeka, KS 66605. He requested every one wear KU or sports wear for the visitation.
Shawne Michael McMillan will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know him. His jovial spirit, love of sports, and kindness leave a lasting legacy, reminding us all to cherish each moment and support one another.
